Von 40 und 45 Jahre alten Reben auf Granit- und Quartz-Boden erblüht ein herausragender Fleurie, der als Einzellage Clos Vernay qualitative und geschmackliche Maßstäbe setzt. Nach dem Dekantieren ist auch die phantastische Aromatik, komplexe Tiefe und das Grand-Cru-Potenzial erkennbar. Vial ist übrigens Madame Chantal Lafarges Geburtsname. "Etwas Holz und eine komplexe Würze, Kräuter, Lakritze, ein Anflug von Schwarzkirsche, aber auch von Trüffel. Der Gaumen verbindet hohe Dichte und einen ganz in die Zukunft gedachten Gerbstoff mit einer Anmutung der Leichtigkeit. Im Abklang zeigt sich der Wein intensiv mineralisch, von guter Länge. "The Clos Vernay is a very granitic vineyard and this can really be felt in the 2014 version from Domaine Lafarge-Vial. This was picked fully ten days later than the Chiroubles and Bel Air bottlings (September 15th versus the 25th) and is a lovely bottle in the making. The bouquet is young and quite reserved in profile out of the blocks, offering up scents of cherries, pomegranate, plenty of granitic minerality, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and hints of the gamebird to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and laser-like, with a fine core of redfruit, excellent soil signature and a very long, modestly tannic and tangy finish.
